The challenge

What was getting
in the way

EV drivers can arrive at a public charger only to find it taken, or the wrong connector for their car. Not knowing whether a plug will be free adds to the worry of running low.

Meanwhile, a charger at home is usually only needed for part of the day. Owners who might share it need a way to find drivers, set a price and keep control over who comes onto their property.

  • Uncertain availability

Drivers often cannot tell whether a charger is free until they get there.

  • Connector mismatch

An electric scooter and a family SUV may need quite different plugs, so a charger on a map may not suit the vehicle.

  • Letting strangers in

Hosts in gated apartment societies need to know who is arriving, and when, before they can share a charger.

The solution

What
we built

  1. 01

    Charger search

Drivers see nearby chargers on a map and filter by connector, charger type, price and distance. Photos, ratings and reviews are available before booking.

    Booking and sessions

Drivers book a slot straight away or schedule ahead, and get a digital gate pass for society entry. During charging, they can watch progress, time left and cost.

Key features

What made it
useful

  • Compatibility

    Map filtered to your port

The map filters chargers by the vehicle's connector, covering two-wheelers on a 15A socket through to four-wheelers on Type-2 AC or CCS2 DC.

    Business impact

    Chargers matched to the vehicle

  • Visibility

    Live session tracking

Once plugged in, a driver can follow charging progress, the time remaining and the running cost from the app.

    Business impact

    Cost visible during charging

  • Access

    Society gate passes

Hosts in apartment societies approve digital gate passes, so a booked driver can get to the charger bay at the agreed time.

    Business impact

    Host-approved entry

Before and after

How the work
changed

Finding a charger

Before

Drive and hope

Drivers commonly head to a public station without knowing if a plug will be free.

After

Reserved in advance

A driver picks a compatible charger nearby and locks in a time slot before setting off.

An idle home charger

Before

Used by one household

A private charger normally serves only its owner and stands unused the rest of the time.

After

Open when the host says

Owners choose the hours and the hourly price, and drivers can book within those hours.

Paying for charging

Before

Arranged by hand

Sharing a charger informally leaves neighbours to work out the cost and settle up themselves.

After

Paid through the app

Payment goes through UPI or card, with a transaction history for the driver to refer back to.

Trust and control

How we kept it
safe and reliable

  • 01

    OTP-based sessions

The app lists OTP-based charging sessions, so a one-time passcode forms part of each session.

    OTP
  • 02

    Driver checks before booking

The site states that drivers complete profile and vehicle connector verification before they can book.

    Verification
  • 03

    Host control

Hosts decide their schedule, set their price and approve gate passes for apartment societies.

    Host-set rules
  • 04

    Reviews before booking

Drivers can see real photos, ratings and reviews of a charger before reserving it.

Faster delivery

Built on tested foundations

A ChargeKr booking draws on all four of these parts from search to payment.

  • Location search

Finds chargers around the driver and passes the route to map navigation.

  • Slot reservations

Matches driver bookings against the hours each host has opened.

  • Driver verification

Covers profile and vehicle connector checks before a driver can book, as described on the site.

  • Payments and earnings

Takes UPI and card payments, records transactions and shows hosts what they have earned.
